As of September 1, 2019, Mirco Schönfeld has been appointed to the Junior Professorship for Data Modeling and Interdisciplinary Knowledge Generation at the University of Bayreuth.
Mirco Schönfeld studied media informatics at LMU Munich, where he also received his PhD in computer science in 2016 on the topic of "Contextual Reference and Authenticity in Social Networks". He then worked as a postdoc at the School of Politics at the Technical University of Munich in the field of Computational Social Science.
His research focuses on the analysis of large and dynamic social, political, and economic systems and the algorithmic challenges posed by linking structure and content in the analysis. His work is at the intersection of computer science and the digital humanities and social sciences.
